Young people are invited to find out more about some of the hidden heroes behind the space race, with a free screening of a Hollywood film.
The Rochester Bridge Trust is inviting families, community groups and schools to see Hidden Figures as part of its support for International Women in Engineering Day (INWED).
The award-winning film is based on the true story of three African-American mathematicians who overcame remarkable odds to become integral members of NASA’s engineering team.
Claire Saunders, Education Officer at the Rochester Bridge Trust, said: “Our aim is to encourage as many young people as possible to appreciate the possibilities engineering can offer, which is why we are screening Hidden Figures free of charge.
“Maths and science are remarkably broad subjects, opening up a whole world of opportunity for young people. This film – which breaks gender stereotypes too – is a way of showing children what can be achieved through the power of numbers and a determination to overcome whatever obstacles may be in your way.”
The film screening is open to all young people with an interest in science and engineering, including families, school and community groups, students, teachers and lecturers. Please note Hidden Figures is rated PG. The screening will be held at Cineworld, Bexleyheath, DA6 7LL on Wednesday, 19th June. Doors open at 5pm for a 5.30pm start.
Tickets are free but must be booked.
