Structural Engineering (buildings)

Very large or tall buildings are designed by structural engineers, usually working closely with architects. In general terms, the architect is most concerned with the appearance and setting of a finished building.  The structural engineer, on the other hand, is responsible for making sure the building can be built and used safely and economically and will last a long time.

Some very specialised civil engineers may work on large and tall buildings, for example earthquake engineers, fire engineers and wind engineers. Structural engineers take a leading role in the construction of sports stadiums.
